The Markab

The Markab shipwreck is the remain of an ancient Lebanese merchant ship, which was probably on its way to the old port near the Achziv cave. The ship ran aground and turned over the rocks in the shallows of the Achziv reefs.

The remains of the Markab are scattered over a wide area near the southwest island of the Achziv Island group.

The entire region is part of the marine nature reserve of Rosh HaNikra. Various animals have built their homes around the fractures that have appeared.
